Ok, in part two of the IB HL Math Portfolio, it asks you to define the equation of the shadow generating function for the two cubics y1 and y2. Now, when the two functions were quadratic, the shadow generating function was linear. My question is: Is the shadow generating function of the two cubics also linear? One might think quadratic, but you only have two points to define the function, and I suspect its linear, but I would appreciate some confirmation!

Looks pretty good. It will depend somewhat on your unweighted GPA. You'll definitely need higher than a 2000 on the SAT and probably at least a 31 on the ACT. I'd say it's pretty likely you'll get into Rice, especially if you can bring your SAT score up. With Harvard it's impossible to say with any certainty because they're so selective.

What couldve caused me to do this?

One morning i remember waking from a dream (dont remember what the dream was about) and i opened my eyes,my body was lied down stiff on my back and then out of nowhere i slowly sat up straight looked to my left at a closed door(i was also the only one awake) and i just said"Yes" in a tone like if i finally understood something that someone told me. It's decent. It's good that you'll start on acoustic i definetely recommend that. Guitar is played mostly from chords (it's the easier way to do it at least). So it's different from your standard sheet music and that's something you definetely have to learn as well as the fingering. I think if you're musical (which you definetely are) you'll get the hang of it eventually.

'Shadows' is vague at best. When I take and read x-rays of my patients (I'm a chiropractor) sometimes there are unknown densities or lucencies (one darkens a picture and the other lightens a picture). Make up tips for pale skin, and dark blue eyes?

When ever I put my make up on, it just does not seem to fit me right. My skin is always oily as well and many cover up tend to make my skin really, really dry or it is very noticable when I put it on, no matter how much or how little I put on. My eyes never seem to really...pop when I put any make up on. Black eye liner or mascara seem to fade off within minutes where it's no longer noticable. I also don't know what color eye shadow I should use. Many dark colors make me look ridiculous, while light colors really don't seem to do anything at all. Tips for Being a Maching Band Section Leader?

Start the marching season tough, and then relax later. If you're soft in the beginning, your section will walk all over you. Be a section leader first, and a friend second. If someone talks out of place, call the person out on it, and tell him or her to stop. One of the biggest causes for poor behavior is the lack of anyone doing anything about it. Don't say anything about inappropriate talking, and there's no reason for them to stop. You have to be able to speak out when someone does something they're not supposed to do. As for bossy underclassmen, again, it's often an issue of no one telling them to stop. Tell them to come to you with concerns instead.

Is it silly for me to take clarinet lessons my senior year in high school?

I will be a senior in high school next year and it wasn't until this year that I really began thinking about what I will do with all of my music experience of the past ten or so years. I played piano and took piano lessons for about 8 years and I took up clarinet in 5th grade. I stopped taking piano lessons near the end of my freshman year and never took up clarinet lessons but I really love playing music and I want to move up in position in band next year and hopefully go to state for solo/ensemble competition. My question is, would it be silly to start taking clarinet lessons now and should I even think about playing in college? Or is it more realistic to just finish out my high school career in band and then move on to something else once I get to college? Am I too late?

Well i might start by suggesting that you learn to drive. I know someone who drives about 4 hours down to Boston every other week for his violin lesson (he's REALLY good). Juilliard would probably like to see the commitment you put into getting lessons and improving your playing. Since you already seem to be a great player (congrats on all of your accomplishments, btw), your playing would still greatly improve if you took private lessons (this is true for about 99.9% of all musicians). If your playing were to improve even more, you might have a better chance at Juilliard! Sorry I can't be more helpful when it comes to the more flute-specific aspects of your question, but I don't play, so I'll leave that to people who know what they're talking about:)

Shaq was a great player to get the ball to when you needed to get your offense going, but to me, he wasn't someone you wanted closing out the game for you. He could not shoot free-throws and at the end of the game, there is always late-game fouling. When the game is on the line, Shaq is the last person you want on the line.

If they are OK with you singing pop songs, how about ''I Will Remember You"? This song has a decent range for you to sing with, but maybe not to extreme. Do you think i chose the wrong choice about doing flute in Wind Ensemble my freshman year?

Well, i auditioned for Wind Ensemble cause i felt like i had a chance in making it even though around 12 flutes tried out and most were sophomores and juniors, and i ended up making third chair out of five people. I do know 1 person in that section and she's the one that helped me with the music to get in. But many people think i wont be able to handle it. My tone is good, i can sight read and play my regular middle school wind ensemble music. But i dont think i'll be able to sight read class B music. I will be able to play it, but it'll have to take me at least a week or two to learn it. Do you think i should've waited to be in wind ensemble in high school? The person that helped me with my audition was in wind ensemble as a freshman and she made it through with no problems, and somehow i got placed a chair in front of her. Do you think ill make it through with little to no problems reading the music. Or should of i waited. The reason i tried out was because if im in wind ensemble now, i'll be a stronger player by the next year which would make it harder for most of the other flute player to catch up to me.

I'm currently 14 years old, at the end of 8th grade in middle school. I love band, myself being in percussion. I love to make beats on different instruments, it's like my brain is hard wired for rhythms. I always play the auxiliary or snare parts, never the mallet, timpani or any other instrument that uses notes. That never came naturally to me, I always liked the line of notes, it's easier to understand, but I always wanted to learn the marimba, the xylophone, the mallet instruments. Earlier on in the year, my dad found out that the high school marching band was short a couple people, including some in the battery/front ensemble category. My dad signed me up without asking me, putting me on the front ensemble, on the MALLET INSTRUMENTS. Now, I didn't like it at all, so the band director asked me to try snare instead, so I gladly did. Something clicked. I knew this was the instrument I was born to play in marching band. I continued on throughout the marching year, playing and having a great year, and then I proceeded to join the indoor drum line, and had a blast. Now, my dad is a musician. He plays drums and piano in big hotels and fancy lounges. He's also the pianist for my church. He got his degree in percussion in college and stuff, he's pretty beast. Now, albeit he doesn't make a whole ton of money, he still makes more then a dude sitting in an office does, he goes to a 2 hour gig and gets $200! Better still, he doesn't work at a dead end job that he hates, he loves doing what he does. Now just recently, he got out these tapes. It was his junior and senior performance at his college that he had to do to graduate. I watched it, and it blew my mind. He was doing 2 mallets in each hand on the marimba, and doing a bunch of mind boggling stuff on everyday objects, not to mention drums and congas. He was one of the best marimba players in the country, in 1988. He was absolutely amazing. He wants to teach me how to play the drums better so I can do gigs with him. I've always been really shy when he wants to do it, though. I always feel like i'll always be inferior to him, and i'll never be as good or even half as good as him, and he'll be disappointed. I also always had an interest in computers. I open them up, unplug things, take things out, put things in, upgrade my hardware, all this stuff. I always wanted to make a career out of computers, but music just seems to be my thing. What do I do?

Things are moving and im seeing shadows?

Well, straight up, I should tell you that I've never gone myself. BUT I am a huge music geek and I have close friends who have gone many time. First of all,it's not at ALL like it's depicted Secret Life Of The American Teenager. Nobody comes home pregnant from band camp. It's mostly music-and-arts focused people who go there, and they go to spend the summer working on their art, not impregnating girls. It's good that you don't want to get involved in drugs, alcohol, etc., but I assure you that there won't be any there anyways. I've never been to Blue Lake but I've gone to similar summer camps, and it's a ton of fun. Everyone is very supportive and focused, but they still have lots of fun at the same time. There's campfire sessions and shows and all sorts of great things.
