Do you think music education should be individually based or large ensemble based?

I have a choir class at my high school that I attend regularly. About two weeks ago my choir teacher gave us a final essay with the question stated above. He said that it can be completely opinionated but three references is recommended. So that is were you guys come in. I would like your input on the matter at hand. Please tell me which side you are taking (choose one side not both) and why you are choosing it. If you have done research and would like to give me that, that is fine.
